Illuminated light boxes

A light box is a sign cabinet with a translucent printed face and lighting inside, so your brand stays visible at night and on overcast days. Light boxes are a practical choice for restaurants, pharmacies, convenience stores and any business trading into the evening. We quote light boxes to size, with installation arranged.

Light box options

  • Single-sided – mounted flat on a wall or fascia.
  • Double-sided – projecting from the wall, or mounted on a pole or pylon, readable from both directions.
  • Shaped boxes – cut to follow a logo outline rather than a plain rectangle.
  • Replaceable faces – a printed face that can be changed later if your branding or offer changes.

The face is usually a translucent material such as acrylic or a flexible backlit material on larger boxes. Your artwork is printed or applied in vinyl so that colours show correctly when lit.

Planning a light box

  • Power. The installation site needs a power supply nearby. Electrical connection requirements are discussed on the quote.
  • Artwork for backlighting. Colours look different when lit. Let us know that artwork is for an illuminated sign. See artwork guidelines.
  • Size and reading distance. Plan letter height for how far away people will be. See sign size and viewing distance.
  • Rules. Centre management may restrict illuminated signs; larger external signs may need municipal approval.

Where light boxes are used

Common placements include fascia boxes above shop entrances, projecting boxes on the side of a building, light box panels on pylons, menu boards in restaurants and lit signs inside shops and receptions. Indoor light boxes can be slimmer and lighter than outdoor ones, which need to handle weather.

Is a light box worth it?

If your customers arrive after dark, or your street is poorly lit, illumination keeps you findable. If you only trade in daylight, a well-designed non-illuminated sign may do the job for less. Our guide to illuminated vs non-illuminated signs covers the trade-offs, and lit channel letters are another option.

Pricing and turnaround

Light boxes are quoted, as size, construction, lighting and mounting all affect price. A site visit for measurements may be needed, and installation is quoted separately. Timelines are confirmed on the quote. Browse illuminated signs or request a quote.
